Disability Discrimination Act 1995
Part III: Rights of Access to
Goods, Facilities, Services and Premises
An
Overview
The
Disability Discrimination Act was introduced in 1995. The
purpose of the act is to remove the discrimination disabled
persons face in everyday life.
On 1st October 2004 the final phase of the Act (phase III)
came into force it is now illegal to discriminate against
those with a disability when offering goods or services
and that reasonable efforts must be made to allow access
to those goods or services.
The DDA will affect all businesses who have access problems
right across the UK . There are very few exceptions to the
law.
The Government has published a very informative website
that outlines requirements placed on businesses in order
to prevent discrimination against disabled people. We strongly
recommend you visit this site to see how the Disability
Discrimination Act affects your business. Click on button
